This stupid reason is why I studied Petroleum Engineering!

A lot of people are studying courses they never planned to study and doing jobs they didn’t go to school for.

In Nigeria, you will find an Engineer working in the bank, and this Engineer probably wanted to study Business Administration.

My story is quite funny but this is the situation of most of our young graduates today. I didn’t study Petroleum Engineering because I wanted to, I studied Petroleum Engineering because I was told by my parents that it’s the course that earns the most salary and benefits. I couldn’t disagree, and that’s how I found myself studying Petroleum Engineering. But now, I work in the financial markets after giving up on engineering for good.

In Nigeria, career guidance and counselling are not taken seriously, but this should be one of the most important aspects of decision-making to help our young ones make the right choice in their career.
